How would one take a picture like the one I have linked here, http://phish.net/media/livepics/2009-12-04--graham-0008.jpg
There is no blurr of lights so I assume it wasnt a long exposure on a tripod, yet its dark in there so it had to be a fast lens, right?
I would think that this venue wouldnt let you bring in a large SLR camera without some kind of photographers pass, so how wouldd you get a shot like this with ametuer equipment?
Thanks for your help!

That was shot with a Panasonic LX-3 at 1/15 f/2.8 @ ISO 400 (it's in the EXIF).
The slow shutter indicates a tripod or improvised support. The f/2.8 lens is faster than most point-n-shoot cameras.
I'd brace the camera against the balconey railing or pillar and try to hold the camera as stead as possible.

I've done a shot like that with a Fuji F30. If I can find it, I will dig it out. It's not that hard to do as long as you watch your exposure.

Use Firefox as your browser, add one of the EXIF plugins, and then you can right click and display the EXIF information.

I'm using FxIF with Firefox 3.6. If you use a lower version, you can use Exif Viewer, which will probably be upgraded in the near future to work with 3.6.

If anything, thanks for the Exif viewer! Have just installed it.

I think the Optical Image Stabilizer in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 could have helped a bit too apart from the fact that the band members were standing still at the time of the shot.

LX3 is a great little camera with a stabilized 24-60 f2-2.8 lens. Support is always nice but 24mm and stabilization at 1/15 works fine handheld too. (Actually this shot is doable even without the stabilizer but keeper rate will be rather low.)
