Printing Alternative Processes on Tile

Amanda Kressly , Mar 11, 2009; 09:44 p.m.

I was wondering if anyone has ever made a cyanotype or van dyke brown on a tile. And how I might do it. For the prep and such and to seal it. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I have done both processes before but I'm thinking about making them into coasters to sell as well.

You might try one of the spray on or paint on photo emulsions. Process like you would a print. Seal the tiles after they have dried.

Never did one of my Cyanotypes on tile. I guess, brush a little on a sample piece. And, check to see if it flows on well. Doesn't bead up, etc. If, it can't be applied evenly, then, it wouldn't work. You could even use 600 wet or dry (WET) sandpaper to give it more tooth. Just lightly enough to remove some of the shine.
Check on what they do to glass to make it ready for the dry plate process.
