How to download RAW images to PC?

Arslan Sukan , Jul 27, 2005; 07:07 a.m.

Which software to download? I can be able to see the pics on EOS viewer but cannot save or modify.

The camera comes with a TWAIN driver for downloading from the camera directly into your image manipulation software on your computer without removing the memory card. Or you get a memory card reader, remove the card from the camera, place it in the reader, and your computer sees the reader like any hard drive. The reader attaches to a USB port on the computer. Card readers cost about $40.

What EOS do you have? If it is a 359D the you need CS2. Check in adobe.com for info about this, you may need the SW that canon has for RAW files otherwise (don't you have it with the camera?).

I have 20d. i downloaded evry software that comes with it. but i can only see the raw pics on viewer and cannot modify or save them. i cannot see them or download them by photoshop cs or digital photo pro.

I have the same problem, I think you have to open the EOS viewer when you are in another program, like Photoshop or Elements, and then I think you can save in that program after you open the shots in Viewer, but I'm really not very good at image filing and would ask that a more experienced Netter chime in with the exact steps to take to get from raw to a good saved file (20D). Thanks, Bob.

Have you downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw from Adobe? It's possible that Photoshop CS doesn't support the 20D. But frankly I'm stumped as to why the Canon DPP won't see the files.

Where do you save the adobe raw converter after downloading in cs? in plug ins folder?

Peter White , Jul 27, 2005; 10:46 a.m.

I don't know. I upgraded from Photoshop 7 to 9 (CS2) and didn't need to manually update Camera Raw. I'm sure the Adobe website has full instructions on how to install the update, assuming it's available. You may need to upgrade to CS2 for the 20D version of Camera Raw. I just don't know is CS will support the 20D. But there are other Raw processors available. You should consider contacting Canon tech support about getting DPP working. There's no reason that shouldn't work for you. And then you have no need for Photoshop.
