Problem with Canon Digital Rebel - mirror

Peter Goleta , Oct 18, 2005; 03:39 p.m.

Has anyone experirenced a problem with the mirror coming off the mount in the camera and not being able to view through the lens? I sent my body to Canon repair service center and they want to charge me $195 to repair. Unfortunately, the camera is out of the warranty period. Is this reasonable?

Yes , me too. The day after buying a second hand DRebel happened exactly the way you describe it. I send it back for a quick fix ,10 minutes later it was OK. Almost one year and not a problem about it yet ( seems it required a drop of some kind of glue and a trained hand ) cost: $ 0 Good Luck Sergio

My rebel had a similar problem. The mirror is a two piece design. The small black piece of plastic on the back of the mirror is supposed to seat itself when the mirror comes up. Mine would not. Fortunatly mine was under warranty and Best Buy gave me another off the shelf.I bought the 20d the same day and sold the rebel brand new in the box to a friend for the new price. (No Tax on his part) Pretty cool considering I took over 10000 pics with the original rebel.

Peter or anyone with a similar problem, How did you resolve your mirror problem? I recently experienced the same problem and my camera is out of warrenty. Canon wanted over $200 to repair and I want other alternatives. Thanks, Gene Howard
