if i buy a 1D Mark IV will it be better than the 5dm2? or, will the only difference be a better focusing system and weather sealing?
thanks!

The comparision is a little like apples and oranges. Tough to compare.

Better for what purpose? Two simplistic examples: the 5D is probably going to be better for landscapes; the 1D is probably going to be better for sports.

Since nobody has yet extensively tested the 1D MkIV, how is anyone supposed to know?
Define "better".
If you get what you pay for, then of course it will be $2300 better...

As others have stated or implied, your question is a bit like, "Is a hammer better than a saw?"
Presumably, many of the basic design differences between the 5D and the 1DMkII and III will remain, making the 5DMkII better suited to landscape, portrait, and studio work, and the 1DMkIV better designed for sports, wildlife, dance, and other situations where the subjects are in motion and conditions might range from hot to cold to wet to dusty.
It's a matter of the photographer choosing the best tool to meet the challenges of his or her most common shooting situations.

In a word, yes, assuming that Canon's marketing is to be believed. Faster shooting, better focusing, brick-like build... It will do anything that the 5D will do and more. Whether you need the more and whether the more is worth the extra $2300 is the question.

The answer to "which is better?" almost always lead to the question "for what?" If you are shooting action sports then the 1D4 could have some real advantages. If you shoot landscape the 5D2 could easily be a better choice.

I still like my canned response for these sorts of Q's:
"How long should a piece of rope be?"

A careful study of the 1D Mark IV white paper, indicates that this camera will be better than the 5D Mark II. Especially, with the refined features of the HD video recording capability.
However, after consulting my Cannonball, I have come to the conclusion that it will not be better than the 5D Mark III.
