Charging EOS 1DS MkII battery

Jaswant Madhavan , Sep 05, 2010; 10:07 p.m.

I am going on a safari to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in a few months. Its a 10 day trip. Is there any way to charge the battery on the 1DS MkII with anything else than regular electric power? I have not even seen a charger that would accept 12V DC. Is there a contraption that can be put together with photovoltaic cells to charge these batteries?
Thanks
Jas

Just take extra batteries, and make sure they're all fully charged.

You'll need to keep the batteries warm as well.
I'd be interested to know if anyone does have an alternative means to charging the Canon Battery system.

I bought a car cig lighter adapter from Wal-Mart that allows me to plug my charger into the car so I can charge on the go. Hopefully there will be an available vehicle with a cig lighter.

nevermind, just noticed the "climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro" part, I don't guess you'll be driving a car up there. I was tinking of a safari with lions and elephants. I wonder if there's some sort of solar power adapter that has a solar panel with electrical outlets?

Perhaps you can find something here:

They offer a variety of solar panels. Whether they can be used to charge the batteries for your particular camera, I have no idea. Disclaimer: I have never purchased anything from this firm.
