Use a small, lightweight, inexpensive netbook, physically tethered to the camera, and then set up an ad hoc WiFi connection between it and another computer, using the Remote Desktop Protocol. Essentially, remote control that small computer, using a virtual desktop at a WiFi distances. You can do this with a cheap, used netbook lashed to your boom or placed at the base of the stand using a longish USB cable, and your existing WiFi-enabled laptop or desktop machine for control. Or, use something like an iPad for your RDP terminal (you can do this with any of several free or cheap apps).
