Can't figure out what battery I need for my vivitar 220/sl.

I have three of these but don't ask me where they are. The 250 SL takes a 675 1.35 volt battery and I think the 220 SL takes the same one. If this is right then a 675 zinc-air hearing aid battery will work. As hearing aids have become smaller, the 675 size battery has become less popular. The last pack I bought was made in England. I wonder if larger and older hearing aids are more popular there. Take a reading with the 675 battery. If it matches a known accurate meter then you are set.

Here's a link to the manual for the Vivitar 250SL and 220SL cameras which confirms, as Jeff stated, that the 220SL was designed to use the 1.35v PX-675 mercury battery:

I would agree that 1.4v 675 zinc-air hearing aid batteries should work fine. My local Walgreens carries all of the common hearing aid batteries, including 675s. A while back, I picked up two packages on a "buy one get one free" sale, a total of 16 batteries for $8 plus tax.

Thank you. I went to Radio Shack and told them what battery I needed, something with a 675 and that it needed to be 1.35v. He handed me a 1.5v large disc battery. It said photo on the package, so I didn't question it. Wasn't the right size. I can't seem to find the PX-675 anywhere, as that was what I was originally looking for. I figured it was the wrong model number.

Matthew, have you tried a big general purpose drug store? Like Walgreen if you're in the U.S., Shopper's Drugs if you're in Canada. You might even try a hearing aid specialty place.
No guarantees, but I bet a big drug store is e more likely to have the zinc-air type hearing aid batteries than a Radio Shack. The batteries should be inexpensive.
Alternatively there are online places that carry every conceivable type of battery. Stick with zinc-air cells though; don't get alkalines.

Unfortunately, there are no Walgreens where I am. I'm currently attending school, SUNY Plattsburgh, in New York. Back home, Long Island, New York, we have Walgreens everywhere. I'll try Walmart, they might have it.

You don't have to go to Walgreens. CVS or Rite Aid or any other large drug store chain near you will have these batteries. The 675 zinc-air hearing aid battery is actually marked 1.4 volts. Under load the difference between 1.35 volts and 1.4 volts is so small that the zinc-air battery works just fine.

According to the store locator at Walgreens.com, there is a store in Plattsburgh at 301 Cornelia St., on the SW corner of Broad and Cornelia. As Jeff suggests, check out the other drug store chains as well. You could also check medical supply stores in your area.

CVS and Rite Aid also have the same.
