Buying Gitzo from B&H overseas. International Lifetime Warranty? Your Experiences?

Marko Matic , Aug 18, 2008; 12:26 a.m.

I live in Australia, I am planing on purchasing a Gitzo tripod from B&H. They claim to have an International Lifetime Warranty. I have requested their terms and conditions for the warranty, but I have not rceived an answer yet! Can anyone tell me how practical such warranty is in oversea countries like Australia? All repairs need to be shipped back to B&H?

Mark, forget about purchasing your gear from overseas merchants, they rip you off in price and service, I buy all my photography gear from Mainline Photographics, there in Crows Nest Sydney Australia. They sell Gitzo tripods with warranty, but I doubt weather you will ever need to use the warranty there so good. www.mainlinephotographics.com.au Ph - 02 94375800 ask for Scott.

A 2nd thing to consider is your country taxes, they usually are calculated when your shipment arrives. Here in Mexico, they charge about 15 % of your shipment vale plus a 65 USD fee. that makes buying photo equipment from an international dealer really expensive here. Of course your country laws may vary, but its worth knowing that in advance....

They are not stocking them up anymore, supposedly a bad rep with the repairs where people had to wait for extended periods of time (>1yr) to get a spare part in! He is scaring me now! Did anyone experience this?
