Quality, Quantity, or Marketing?

How come every photographer I see, 8 times out of 10, .... it's a Canon?

Funny - I see a lot of Nikons when I'm out looking at other people's cameras. Maybe it averages out between our observations.

Nikon stealth cameras are popular, but you can't see them :-)

I see a lot of Nikons and a few Pentax and Sonys as well as Canons. Canon is the biggest seller, but it has nowhere near 80% of the market. I think that part of it is good marketing and advertising. Part of it may also be word of mouth. People tend to recommend what they own themselves, and since Canon has been the biggest seller for years, it has more people recommending them to friends and family.

The picture from this thread might provide the answer ;)

jf,

Love it.

I just put a rubber armor case thingy on mine. Did the same stealthy thing, without messing with resale.

you only see what you want to see. It's like buying a car, once you've got a certain type you see them all around. That's all.

I live in a tourist destination (e.g. Colonial Williamsburg) and see cameras from all around the world. From what I can see, it's a pretty even mix of everything.
