Now what kind of a question is that?
BJ Bignell , Jun 08, 2005; 04:30 p.m.
Alright, I'm game: First one's the Hassy, the second is the Rollei? Just a wild guess...

The key of the answer is accessible in my S. Liu's photos assembly, posted below.
Good night !
A classic clue
Nicolas Douez , Jun 08, 2005; 04:56 p.m.
You won't learn how to make gimmicks to an old monkey ;-)
Capisce ?
So :
1 is Rolleiflex
2 to 8 are Hasselblad.
Only the Rolleiflex has that special arrow frame on two of the four frame corners.
I've already a Rolleiflex at home, I assume I've won the Hassy Mr Liu ?
;-)
Nicolas Douez , Jun 08, 2005; 04:58 p.m.
BTW I'd say that photo #6 is what Mike Kovacs calls a kick-ass shot !
;-)
S. LIU , Jun 08, 2005; 05:02 p.m.
#1 is Hasselblad, NEXT! :-)
new #1
Mike Kovacs , Jun 08, 2005; 05:18 p.m.
As Nicolas would say, C'est bonne derriere!
Nicolas Douez , Jun 08, 2005; 05:39 p.m.
Well I assume you've done something with a software to mask the Rolleiflex typical arrow film frame angle design on some shots then ? And add it on the first 1 you posted ?
I have a Rolleiflex 3.5F and just check my negatives and slides. I'm sure I'm right. See the attached pic I just shot of one of my 3.5F negatives, handheld.
Is it a tricky game ?
I like your shots very much - would you have taken them with a Lubitel ! What's the matter with the camera brand ???
;-)
Carefully look at the film frame corners ! Rolleiflex done.
Nicolas Douez , Jun 08, 2005; 05:45 p.m.
Well finally the arrow corners of your first 1 are a big too big to my Rolleiflex's taste.
So - 1 is Hassy, 2 to 8 are Rollie, but the clue is here, in the frame corners shape, hey ?
Mike : oh oui, comme le cher JeanLoup Sieff disait : rien ne vaut une bonne paire de fesses !
Bonne nuit les petits !
S. LIU , Jun 08, 2005; 05:55 p.m.
Hasselblad also produces that kind of corners. By the way, there is another hint on the border of image #1 tells it is a Hasselblad. I realized it after I posted the first image and cropped out all borders in the other images to make it a fair game ;-)
BTW, my Rolleiflex is a 1932 old standard which doesn't have any mask at all!
This is just for fun. The Hasselblad 500EL was borrowed from a friend. I just want to see if I can shoot the same kind of photos with a camera that is thousands of dollars more expensive and many pounds heavier than my poor old $120 Rolleiflex ;-)

So, I don't win a prize for having the first correct answer? :(
Nicolas Douez , Jun 08, 2005; 06:07 p.m.
Cropping to hide the clues is not EXACTLY what I'd call a fair game here !!!
Shame on me - I knew the Hassy produced twin hints alongside the frame but I didn't see them on first #1 (too dark a zone). On other pictures, it certainly have been much more visible - hence my false deduction.
FYI my 3.5F didn't even cost me anything as I traded it for an unused Nikon MD-12 motordrive !
Well, I'm apparently the only one here who have thought of following that track of signature frame hints, so I'm not so bad a detective finally !
BTW show us such shots as often as possible !
;-)

Nicol?s: Don't forget that Sam can to make a cropping in the
Scanner step. Certainly He makes so, because don't appear the
Hassy classical two marks at the left side. Any way, he is
making something grat with his CZ Jena. Congratulations!!!

Sam - #7: How much for 10 x 10 print?
Roman Sonnleitner , Jun 08, 2005; 07:17 p.m.
Yep, the Hassie's give-away twin V-notches was what I looked for - since none of the pics had them, I assumed you cropped them, so there were no other obvious clues...
A bit of trivia: in the 1970s, Bronica had a big ad campaign for their MF cameras, and in the ad there were some sample pics - unfortunately, the forgot to crop out the V-notches, which gave away that they were shot with a Hasselblad...
Jim McBride , Jun 08, 2005; 07:29 p.m.
When I first looked at the pictures I guessed that they were ALL Rollei pictures, but the
sharper ones were taken at a smaller aperture. Sam's Rollei pictures are all very pleasing,
but seem a little softer than the ones I used to make back in the 1970s with a 2.8F with
the Schneider Xenotar stopped down to about f8 or f11. In any event, I hope that Sam
keeps posting because I enjoy his pictures no matter what camera he uses.
S. LIU , Jun 08, 2005; 08:53 p.m.
Jim, the majority of those shot were taken with a Hasselblad 500CL. I scan them straight and no USM at any stage (just my taste).
CE. If you guess correctly what camera was used for #7, a digital 10x10 print is yours for free!

Interesting they all look like digital photo's to me but then that is what I'm looking at.
Jay Capodiferro , Jun 08, 2005; 09:44 p.m.
I agree with CE, shot #7 is fantastic!!!!
CE Nelson , Jun 08, 2005; 10:05 p.m.
Not that it matters to me either way - you could shoot out of a tin can with some film glued inside of it, would still probably hit the mark often enough to please me.
But, I will wager the color roll shot in the Hassy, the B&W in the Rollei.
Now, be a good soul and send me the print anyway, huh?
:)
S. LIU , Jun 08, 2005; 10:18 p.m.
CE,
#7 was shot with Hasselblad. The light leak at the upper right corner is due to my mistake when I loaded the back. (I lost 3 frames.)
Since you didn't get it right, I can only send you a 7.5x7.5 on 8x10 paper digital print for free. Is that OK for you? (Offer only to CE.)
If you insist 10x10 on 11x14 paper print made by myself in darkroom, then I have to charge you $117.5 + S&H. (Offer to anyone who wants it, no kidding.)
Let me know what you want.
Sam

Second thought on pricing.
Since I am not a commercial photographer or artist who makes a living on photography, I'd like to have some fun with my darkroom prints. I'd like to set the price of a 11x14 print to the money I've spent on the camera that I used to make that shot (+ S&H). For example, for a Holga, it is $16; PinHolga, $29; XA, $125; Kinaflex, $10; Rolleiflex, $117.5; etc. etc. ...
So if the image was made with a Hasselblad. I don't know, because I borrowed that camera. What do you think I should charge?

S. LIU , Jun 09, 2005; 10:22 p.m.
CE, here is the print. I am going to put it into the envelop and mail to you tomorrow.
