N80 plus fuji back = S2

F. Simmons , Mar 21, 2010; 07:02 p.m.

I bought my wife a used Fuji S2 for a hobby gift to have fun with. After much study, I found that the S2 is a Nikon N80 with a Fuji digital back. I was wondering if anyone has tried to replace their Finepix body with the N80 body when their film section goes bad. Her's is fine. It works perfect and she loves it. I was thinking of the future when parts would become rare. I've tested it in many different light scenarios and compared it to my Nikon D70 and the Fuji's dynamic range is unbelievable. Anyway, my question for the moment is--- Has anyone put a N80 body on An S2 back?

It's not like the two are separable. Yes, the S2 has the electronics and shutter of an N80, but the body is totally integrated with the sensor and other controls. This is not like a Hasselblad with a digital back which can be easily replaced. I'm not sure what you mean about the future and parts. Digital cameras are not going to age well. Like most electronics, they will be sent to a junk heap when they are obsolete/broken. Unlike classic film cameras, there will not be hobbyists to fix an S2 20 years after it was produced.
