Hello,
I just got back from Best Buy and while I was waiting for my computer I wandered over as usual to the cameras. I talked
with one of the sales persons who likes photography and I asked him what he thought of the NEX 5N. He told me that
they are being discontinued, that model is no longer being made. (He also kind of let me know that he doesn't use
P&S's.)
Anyway, does anyone have an idea about when the prices might start coming down if they are being phased out? Best
Buy is still asking $699. I really want one but thought if the price might go lower then I could wait a while longer before
buying one.
As a side note, I also saw (for the first time) the BAMBOO CREATE tablet which is a peripheral which connects to the
computer for photo editing and sketching. Sales person said that its a great tool to use for editing photos because the
stylus that comes with it is so much more precise than a mouse.
Does anyone have experience with these tablets?

Thanks!

The NEX 5N is only on the market for 4 or 5 months - seems a bit early for retirement. You sure he wasn't referring to the NEX 5?

I'll bet it's the NEX-5 he's referring to, probably unknowingly. Sony has a pretty aggressive ad campaign for the NEX-5N. During the show "X-Factor" they ran a lot of NEX-5N commercials, and that was just a month or two ago.

Best Buy reps are clueless, at least the 10 or so I talked to...

Since NEX-5N has lower noise at high ISO than the NEX-7, and truer colors, with less rendition problems, yet it costs about half of NEX-7, perhaps it was undercutting the sale of NEX-7, that really did not take off for supply problems. The flooding caused short supply of NEX-5N, NEX-7, as well as Nikon.
Read one user compare NEX-5N versus NEX-7 on Amazon that itemizes very well why NEX-5N is better than NEX-7.
If NEX-5N is really dicontinued, perhaps the prices will go up. We have seen this happen to Canon S70, or Nikon D200, at least for a while when supplies were exhausted, before they entered used camera market. Best Buy had some large supply and low price on discontinued D200, that lasted few days. This may not happen to NEX-5N since supplies are low.

Frank, the Nex 7 will sell well with or without the 5n. People are charging outrageous prices for the Nex 7...I mean like 1k over MSRP...It's crazy considering the price is only $1300...

I asked the guy what he thought of the NEX cameras and the 5N was right behind me on display...he
looked over at it and said its being discontinued. So I naturally thought he was referring to the 5N. But he
may have been thinking of the 5.
I thought maybe since the NEX 7 came out they would kill off the 5N....so glad to hear that's not true.
btw...I just looked at the Sony site and at first I thought they had a sale price of $599..$100 cheaper than
Best Buy but then I realized its only for the body.

Best Buy guys know nothing about cameras. I was checking out the new Nikon 1 series and the idiot told me the good news is different color lenses will fit different color cameras. He added "in the past for some reason the same model camera in different colors required a lens of the same color. What a dork.

Another reason to avoid Best Buy. I couldn't tell you the last time I walked into one. If they ever disappeared some day, I'd never know it, or feel too bad when I found out. From a photography equipment knowledge-standpoint, I never ran into anyone at Best Buy that added any value, and I always went in knowing what I was looking at, and looking for. I would hate to think what they've told people who walked in with little or no knowledge.
