problem with picture project nikon's software

Ambika Bhatt , Dec 15, 2004; 05:44 a.m.

I have a problem with the software that came with my Nikon D70, the Picture Project. See, I import RAW files once to see them, and then import another batch of Raw files. For some reason the earlier batch of Raw files vanishes when I get in more pictures into the "all Pictures" folder. So I try to bring them in again, that is import them again coz I cant view the Raw files together in any other programme - it does not get imported , the software just says that these set of files have already been imported, and ends there, it does not even ask if it should import it again. so these set of files, i just cant view on picture project again. even when i put all the raw files into labelled folders on picture project, the folder will remain but the pictures would just vanish, there would be blank thumbnails there instead. this is really a huge problem, i need to keep viewing the pictures i shoot on Raw, and I cant, unless i view them one by one on photoshop which takes a lot of time. if anyone has figured out a solution please let me know.

Hi Ambika

You might try Nikon View... this was the predecessor to PictureProject and is considered the better software for navigation etc.

Nikon View can be downloaded from the Nikon Support website along with the update to 6.2.2.

You can run PictureProject and Nikon View in parallel and compare the results.

Be aware that if you update PictureProject 1.0 to 1.1 it will automatically uninstall Nikon View.

Hope this helps.

Ambika. I tried to work with Picture Project and found it impossible. It is slow and poorly designed software. I finally bit the bullet and got Capture. It not only allows you to run your camera from your comuter, if you want, but allows you to upload custom profiles for your D-70, as well as do more raw edits which you can't do with PP. My advice is to dump PP and get Capture.

I've had problems with Picture Project too. It seems to act like zombie software. It won't let you open raw files with Photoshop once it is installed. I still haven't gotten rid of it.

Hi everybody ... I've just inherited from my son his cast-off Nikon D70 - but there is no PictureProject disc with it so my ageing computer (running Windows 98 SE) can't find the camera to download. Is there a site from where I can download PictureProject or an alternative driver which will recognise the camera to enable me to download ? Any help would be most appreciated.

Many thanks - and very Best Wishes for a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year to all members of Phot Net.
