Hello All,
I am planning on setting up digtal photo editing for personal use. I
have heard generally that CRT's are much better than LCD's. So have
started looking at used/refurbished high-end CRT's. What is your
opinion about Sony GDM-FW900 or Mitsubishi 2060U? Am open to other
suggestions too. My prime aim is to have color accuracy. Someone on
the net was talking about Dell 2405 24" LCD. What about that?
Thanks in advance.

<...My prime aim is to have color accuracy...> and <...used/refurbished high-end CRT's...>
dont go together. If you whant the best, use the best. dont be cheap, buy a new CRT ( i
personally prefer high end LCD) in the end you have what you pay for.

We teach several levels of PhotoShop and use only CRT's. The best we have seen is La Cie.

Thanks for the response. Can anyone also suggest a new CRT (probably 21") with good color accuracy and reasonable price?
Thanks.

NEC / Mitsubishsi Diamond Pro 2070sb. Only because that's what I use and am very pleased. Heard a rumour too that they're LaCie in a different box. Can anyone verify this?

CRTs are getting progressively more difficult to find as they are no longer being
manufactured in large part. There were only four (and later) three manufacturers. LaCie?s by
and large use the NEC/Mitz tube (they OEM them). Top of the food chain were Sony Artisans
and Barco?s. Nearly impossible to find them any more.

Just to confirm what you heard about CRTs. I was shopping for a mid-priced monitor and after examining a few test images on several LCD monitors in my company, including an Apple 23" LCD, I decided to buy a CRT. LCD monitors have come a long way but are not as good as CRTs for color work yet. I got a LaCie Electron 19 Blue IV and am very happy with it.

LCD technology to watch is "LumiLCD" which promises superb color fidelity. The first such monitor is the NEC MultiSync 2180WG-LED, about to be released. The first review is full of superlatives. E.g., from Tom's Hardware (link at bottom): "The 2180WG-LED's superiority is overwhelming. 98% of the colors were perfect..." But, sadly, it's too pricey for me, roughly $6,000. Link is:
