Can anyone recommend a decent Web site devoted to working with the LAB
color space? I understand this is a great space to adjust colors, but
I am looking for some insightful, free help. Thanks a bunch. I
appreciate your help.

It's not free but I can tell you that when I read Dan Margulis's Photoshop LAB Color, it changed the way I processed my shots. This was the best PS book I have read before or since. Here's an Amazong link.

I'd third the recommendation for Dan's book.

Does Margulis use the same writing style he uses in "Professional Photoshop" (as if he is writing to amuse himself and others who know the subject matter inside and out already)? In all the many times I've read through "Professional Photoshop", I find I never actually learn anything, because I find him way too obtuse. But maybe that's me...

After reading Dan Margulis's book on LAB I routinely use it in my workflow. It has made an amazing difference in my nature and flower images and the basic adjustments are very quickly done in PS. I doubt that there is a "quickie" or shortcut way to learn this; I think you need to buy or borrow Dan's book, read it, and try LAB adjustments on some images.
