Playboy Style Airbrush Technique Photoshop CS2

Eddie Gonzalez , Aug 24, 2006; 08:42 p.m.

What is the name of the so called "Airbrush" technique that Playboy uses for their magazines. I don't really know if it even involves airbrushing or not but I've heard people say that they look good because they are "airbrushed". I'm looking for a ideally a book that focuses on this "Playboy" Technique. Or maybe a web site that talks a lot about this "Playboy" technique. What are they actually doing to the image?..to get that look?

Thanks

Employing a $1000/day makeup artist.

many techniques are available... here is a quick for doing it http://www.escrappers.com/glamour2.html Make sure to reduce the opacity of the "effect" layer for a more realistic look.

Skin coloration can also be fixed: http://www.escrappers.com/rash.html

Using Neat Image (or another noise reduction filter) can also work wonders. http://www.escrappers.com/neat.html

Then you want to add another layer to fix the skin tones and make it all "perfect"

Playboy centerfold shoots take several days, and utilize professional hairstylists and makeup artists. Start there and then see how much Photoshop work you need on your images....

A several day huge effort is spent in lighting, reflectors, placement; just like a movie shoot, or high end commerical product shot for food. FEW folks really master this , and often chase a bought gooberflex camera, or software solution. The Book "How I Photography Nudes" by Bunny Yeager from 1963 was written by the gal who shot one of the first Playboy shots, images of Bettie Page. Peter Gowlands many books are usefull too in learning figure photography. The "Bernard of Hollywood The ultimate Pin-Up book" by Taschen press has another old masters images to study.

don't know the name of the technique but the Playboy girls certainly lack realism from the centerfold pages .. more akin to the barbie dolls you see sold in the toy stores. While the aforementioned books are good, they are more film-based techniques than digital.

My guess is that John Paul just might be on to what I'm looking for. I'm not doing nudes but I am doing some females that ask me if I can make their skin have the playboy look. If you look closely at the playboy magazines (which I rarely do these days...no seriously my wife won't let me anymore) I think you'd agree that the image does not come out of the camera that way (film or digital). I have to believe that there is some hardcore re-touching that goes on.

Here is an incredibly simple technique. Combine this with other tools such as the Healing Brush and you can make anyone look good! http://dustylens.com/glamour_look.htm
