Epson R800 - updated profiles?

Martin Fahey , Feb 01, 2008; 04:07 a.m.

I have come back to using my R800 printer with CS3, and realise that, in spite of my best efforts at calibration, my prints are darker than on the screen (where I think I have a reasonably-well calibrated monitor). Searches show that Epson USA provided "new" profiles for this printer and epson papers some years ago. However, I have not been able to find any more updated "canned" profiles. I believe that the dark image issue has been around for some years with the R800 and epson profiles. Has nothing been done since then to provide better canned profiles for this printer and epson papers? (Yes, I know the ultimate solution is to do a custom profile for my actual printer, but short of that, is there anything better than these Epson USA profiles?).

Thanks

I also have looked and looked for ICC profiles for the the R-1400 on the Epson Web Site, without any luck, cannot find profiles as a seperate item. If anyone knows where to look, please post the URL.

I managed to get a few icc profiles for the R-390 same as us R-380 from the Australia Epson site, Perhaps you could also look there for the R800??

It may have a different international name, like the R-390/R-380 R1410/R1400 same printers. Maybe R810???

The Epson profiles for the r800 are pretty good--maybe better than you might get from a custom profile. How is your monitor calibrated? In particular, how did you set the black point?

Here the link to Epson profiles for R800, more updated compared to those shipping with the printer. Anyway, they are just in the Download section of Epson USA: (link)

Actually I never used the above, but used the canned profiles years ago, and they were quite decent with my printer.

I remember I had your same problem time ago because was checking the prints under a too dim light, a bright desk lamp (with approx. 5000K temperature) fixed the issue and also helped in colour matching.
