hi all,
i just recently did a fresh install of leopard on my mac and forgot to archive
the version of vuescan that i have. unfortunately my registration code no
longer works for the downloadable version available from hamrick software. i
emailed, and hamrick does not keep archives of older versions.
before unnecessarily shelling out for an upgrade, i was wondering if anyone has
a copy of an older version floating around. my registration code was purchased
sept 2006 so it should work for versions released up to sept 2007.
thanks for you help!

Ed Hamrick will send you a new license code for the latest version, if your purchase included
the unlimited upgrades. All you have to do is use his web page at
https://www.hamrick.com/rep.html.
Fill out the required info and a page with the correct license code will be generated.

thanks godfrey.
i purchased the standard edition - i'm not looking for latest version, just a DMG of a version that will work with my purchased license.
thanks. i've noted from searching previous posts that there are some people keeping archives of vuescan versions - but only for windows. anyone out there have an older version for OS X? Again, a version release between Sep 06 and Sep 07.
cheers.

You can also upgrade your license to pro, by paying the difference I believe. Worth it, imho.

Dutty,
According to Ed's release notes, v8.4.44 contained updates for Leopard and v8.4.45 contained a fix for
earlier versions of Mac OS X (which presumably surfaced with 8.4.44). I have some older versions of
VueScan in my install archives (I archive any software I install from a web download source), but I have a
large gap between v8.4.35 and v8.4.62 (I'm still running on Tiger with my main system, haven't done much
scanning). v8.4.35 is from August 25, 2007.
I've just started testing the latest (v8.4.67, I believe) with Leopard on my laptop system. It seems to be
running well.
I can send you the installer download of v8.4.35 if you're inclined to experiment. I personally would
suggest getting the upgraded license and installing the latest version for best compatibility with Leopard.
Send me a private email to tell me where you would like me to email or ftp the 6.5 Mbyte DMG file.

thanks to all for replying.
while i have no objections to vuescan pro - i'm sure it's a great product - , my needs were quite sufficiently met with the vuescan version i had installed and so would rather not have to shell out extra bucks if i dont have to - besides, i am by no means a pro nor do i have a pro scanner (canon 8400f).
heath, thanks, but that link does not seem to work for me.
cheers,
mark

The major advantage to VueScan's pro version, for me, is that it comes with unlimited
updates. So as new scanners and other features are added, you get to update to them
without any issues. I hardly use any of the pro features themselves.

You will realize the value of the Pro version (free upgrades for life) as the years go by. I paid $40 for it in 2002. One of the best deals I ever made.
Probably in 2014, you will look back and wish you would have signed up for the free upgrades back in 2008 when it only costs $80.

Hello Mark,
From one Mark to another, I feel your pain. Let this be a lesson to would-be VueScan buyers! I purchased Vuescan standard edition in
2007 ($40) and upgraded within the year allowed. But the update caused Vuescan to behave unpredictably and often crash my Mac
running OS X / 10.4.11. After struggling (and numerous hours invested) I finally sent a detailed description of the problem to Hamrick, as
he asked. Without diagnosing the problem, Hamrick suggested I download the latest version - 8.4.85.
Problem solved; works fine again. But now Hamrick is charging me ANOTHER $40, refusing to allow me to use the remedy version
without the watermark on every scan in the trial version. Sound familiar?
Like you, I've already paid $40 once, and won't pay again. I first asked to go back to the earliest version that I downloaded and forget
about the upgrade. Nothing doing, he said – archived older versions would take "hundreds of megabytes" he said. AND HE'S THE
DEVELOPER! Hamrick wants another $40 to upgrade to the professional version. For my $40 invested in VueScan I can only use the
trial version now.
Let this be a lesson: When you deal with an individual developer as opposed to a corporation (such as LaserSoft and it's Silverfast
scanning software), they are free to dismiss your claims and turn their back. If you find a place to snag a workable older version, let me
know. Hamrick seems to be preempting archiving sites from distributing older versions. GOTCHA!

In Ed's defense, he is the only developer producing an excellent package *and keeping it updated on a continuing basis*
at this price. Silverfast is a good package but you'll need to buy an upgrade for each major revision or new scanner you
might want to use it with. And he's replied, personally, to every support issue I've found with the product ... and fixed
them.
At $80, the Vuescan pro version is cheap. I've been using Vuescan since 2000 ... One $80 (actually $40 then!) purchase
price has saved me hundreds of dollars in upgrades, updates, etc for the 11 scanners I've used in the past eight years.
I keep my own archive of VueScan releases. I've only once had to go back to an earlier version due to a bug, and he
corrected the problem I ran into (which I don't even recall what it was at this point) within a week.
