Windows 7 and Minolta Dimage scan elite 5400

Geoff Boswell , Dec 14, 2009; 03:50 p.m.

I have used my minolta slide scanner for several years but it will not work with my new computor using windows 7. Any suggestions? I need a new driver but I can not find one that works.

VueScan (link ) will soon, if it doesn't already.

Best ever for keeping old equipment, often no longer supported by the manufacturer, still in use.

I am a satisfied user, but have no other links to Hamrick or VueScan.

I have tried vuescan but have not got it to work.

My guess is that they haven't yet got up to speed with Windows 7. I'd e-mail Hamrick and ask if he expects to support your rig on Windows 7. I imagine they're pretty busy right now trying to patch and otherwise fix stuff broken by the new OS.

He gets lots of mails each day and requires a log of actions that resulted a failure. The log in Windows 7 does not have the file name that Hamrick specifies. I have sent him a sample of the file that I think is correct.

I have my Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, thanks to this manual fix for the driver: (Solution 2)

It was designed for your scanner, so will work for you too!

Hi Scott,
I have just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro (32 bit) from XP, and am now unable to get my d5400 to work using anything I have tried - the Dimage Scan utility, the TWAIN photoshop import plugin, or an old copy of Silverfast I had knocking around.
I just continuously get error=4 could not confirm scanner connection.
I originally had it plugged into the firewire port, but have now plugged it into the USB, but still no luck... :-(
I already tried to do solution 2 on http://www.fixya.com/support/t872019-minolta_dimage_scan_elite_5400_vista which is I think is what you are talking about, but my problem is that the minolta software installer (DS115E.exe) doesn't appear to have installed any drivers anywhere (that I can find anyhow), so I can't update the driver with the version on that page...
I bought the Pro version of 7, so I could run a virtual version of XP for this very scanner, only to find that my processor (E7200) was a cut down version that didn't support it! grrrr

Any help would be very gratefully appreciated (I have another 30,000 images to scan!)

Actually I have installed the .inf driver from that page now (I found the Action/Add Legacy Hardware option on the Device Manager).
In the Device manager, the 'Minolta DiMage Scan Elite 5400' shows up with an exclamation mark and the status of the device is given as 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'
I notice that the scanner does not show up in 'view scanners and cameras' list (though my flatbed does), so it is obviously not being recognised....
Unfortunately I still get the same error...
Any deas?

I had the same problem with mine and OS X on my Mac. Check out http://www.silverfast.com/
