coolscan power off not & 9000

bruce erickson , Mar 21, 2010; 03:47 p.m.

I have a coolscan 5000 and inadvertently left it on for several days. What damage could this cause? It was warm but not hot to the touch. I scanned a slide with it and it seems o.k.
While on the subject of scanners, does anyone know if the 9000 manufacture has been discontinued too?

None whatsoever. LEDs don't generate much heat, aren't on when the scanner is idle, and the scanner should put itself in stand-by mode. The only thing you've done is waste electricity.
Nikon still lists the 9000 as a current scanner.

Thanks. That puts my mind at ease over this question. Hey, I like your scanning guide, helpful.

Over 13,000 frames scanned with my Coolscan 5000 and it scans exactly the same as the day it came out of the box back in 2004. No doubt that Nikon makes industrial grade product!

We have had Nikon Scanners on for over a year at a time running continuously without any damage or degradation.

Nikon scanners are discontinued. They are still supported.

Is the Nikon 9000 included in your statement regarding Nikon scanners being discontinued?
