Fredrik, I don't know what you mean by pop, and I don't know if you consider this an improvement, but it is different. This one has a bunch of level and contrast adjustments.

Adjusted

Here's a treatment with some auto levels, curves, and contrast, faded to varying degrees, and the top and bottom half dealt with separately by using a gradient mask. It's still pretty low contrast and dark and dull, but that would be up to your taste to increase. Provides a starting point at least.

It was considerably underexposed; levels were adjusted to bring the sky near the white point. Overall curve adjustments pushed brought up the sunlight kissed tree tops and distant trees; pushed down values in the water reflections; brought up the values in the white washed walls. A second curves adjustment brought up the foreground steps. Cropped for composition and removed the distracting topmost steps and building on far right. Rotated slightly to bring the trees vertical. The focus, I felt, was inappropriately on the foreground steps and rail, rather than the mid-distance subject.

PS. I would crop away the steps altogether, in hindsight after posting.

Sun kissed early morning trees in fog

Here I've got to the essentially the same place as Brett, but by using in Adobe Camera Raw and tweaking exposure, color temperature, etc.
The beauty of Photoshop, is that there are nearly always multiple ways of doing almost anything. Sometimes one is easier than others, depending on your workflow and habits.

using Adobe Camera Raw to process the image.

Thanks very much for all the input, i got some great ideas now.
Any ideas how to get the image more dark and mystic?, i would love to get the image more hazy.

How about this, i converted it to b&w and then added some more fog and some dodging and burning. Is it better then my original ?.
Thanks

I though you wanted more pop. You started out very dark and made it even darker.

You might take a look at Topaz Adjust 4. It's good for "what can I do with this" musings. Here are four variations using some of the presets in Adjust 4.

First one was the best.
