Macro: intricate details of butterfly wings, minute hairs on the legs of a fly, textures and patterns perhaps missed, colorful patterns and shapes, vibrant details of insects in various attitudes, intricate close-ups of flower petals and dew drops…

The Photo.net editors selected a handful of images highlighting talented macro photographers on photo.net. Macro is close-up photography; the classical definition is that the image projected on the “film plane” (i.e., film or a digital sensor) is close to the same size as the subject. There is a collection of photographs of colorful details of butterflies, intricate glimpses of flowers, textures of insect wings, and vibrant dragonflies. Many of our talented photo.net professional and enthusiast macro photographers have demonstrated their skills with capturing minute details of flowers and insects. We invite you to discuss these selected Macro Photos in the comments section below.

When Harry Met Sally - An example of my Home Made Macro Tube Work

Truly inspirational, as a fellow close up and bug photographer I am aspiring to improve my work, by viewing other people work, I am able to see their angle of approach, what would be useful would be a section where the photographer could write an article guiding the readers and informing them of there method of approach, equipment used and give general hints on how to improve.

An example would be, in my Portfolio, I openly admit my standard of work is far from perfect, however I am severly crippled with pain and am an electric wheelchair user. However Photography has been my one guiding light in helping to keep me sane and I have striven to improve my work with the equipment available to me. There must be many thousands of fellow readers and users who like myself have found there income grreatly reduced through no direct fault of there own. and feel they are unable to even begin to follow there desired hobby of Photography, or as I like to call it. Painting Pictures with Light.

I have developed a very inexpensive form of Macro Photography, which cuts the cost of equipment by many hundreds of pounds or dollors, and have posted my work in the single Photo section of my Portfolio. it would have been even better if I would have had a section available to me where I could share this knowledge with your readers and guide them to start experimenting for themselves.

My work will never be Pin Sharp as I am crippled with pain in my hands and have a spinal injury, that said i refuse to allow it to stop me, and I openly want to share my knowledge with others.

The work in this photo and section is of a very high standard and would have been even of greater value to your readers if they could have rread how such shots (Photo's) were taken and presented.

regards John Smith

At Rest

A Further example would be the Early Morning Moth, again Photographed using my Home Made Macro Tube from an old Kitchen Roll Tube and a Raynox len.

And from Macro Photography to Portrait work as shown in this Photo of my Bearded Dragons. Hads i been able to give details of how the shot was set up and taken, it in turn could give your readers ideas as to how to go about doing experimental work of there own.

Regards John Agrel Smith
