Canon have announced their Spring Rebate Program for 2006. The mail-in rebates
listed below will apply to items purchased from authorized Canon retailers
between April 1st 2006 and June 15th 2006. All rebate claims must be postmarked
by August 5th 2006.
Notable are the $300 rebate on the EOS 5D and the $100 rebate on the Digital
Rebel XT. The EOS 5D rebate wasn't unexpected since Canon have been running
similar promotions in Europe and Canada for a few weeks now. It brings the price
of the EOS 5D down to under $2700, making it more affordable for those who want
to go full-frame. The EF 24-105/4L IS, which seems to be a very popular lens for
the 5D, also has a $50 rebate. The $100 rebate on the Digital Rebel XT brings its
street price down to under $600. This clearly makes it the best "bang for the
buck" in the market for consumers looking for their first DSLR.
It's interesting that no EF-S lenses are included in the program. I don't know
what it means, but it's interesting! Maybe it means that they are selling well
enough not to need any sales boost? Your guess is as good as mine on that
one.
