Fantastic Lens When Starting Out, Sep 16, 2012
By Michael Howard

I started using this lens when I was getting into photography with my D70. I now use it with my D7000 and still love it. You wont find a better lens for the money, about $100. This lens really helped me get out of Auto on my camera and get into manual. It's a great first lens.

Pros:
* Very sharp pictures (especially when @ f/2.2, f/2.5 or more.)
* Good for indoor and low light situation
* Good for portrait
* Bokeh is almost as good as much more expensive Nikon lenses
* Fast autofocus
* Price

Cons:
* Plasticy build
* Autofocus isn't very quiet

Inexpensive + Excellent

ISO 800, f/1.8. 1/2000

If you are considering getting into digital SLR photography then buy a Nikon D80 and this lens! The f/1.8 aperture allows for some low light shooting and the bokeh is great. I don't own this lens, but, I have borrowed it to take some shots [ with my D300] and it is excellent. A great lens to learn dSLR photography.
