Head for Slik Pro 700DX Tripod

Christian Stahl , Feb 07, 2012; 11:15 a.m.

I own a NikonD40x and a Panasonic NV-GS 300. I'm a musician and use the equipment for promotion. I ordered a Benro tripod Aluminium Travel Angel A-068m8 + BH-00, but found it was only 1,10m high and sent it back. Now ordered a Slik Pro 700DX, but overlooked it has no head.
How do I find out which head to get (I'm in Germany and ordered via Amazon)?

I did some research and found the manfrotto 322rc2 to be a recommended head. Can I use it with the slik tripod?

I'm a big fan of the Manfrotto 322 and 222 (have both), and almost all modern tripods use a standard screw mount. Adapters are available for the few that don't.
However, you don't say what lenses you are mounting. If they are really heavy, the ball/pistol grip heads may not work so well. They will do fine for a normal dSLR and modest lenses.

I use the kit lens with the d40 (very light). So I guess this should work.

My favourite is the Manfrotto geared head (410/junior), with the pistol grips as a good runner up.

Slik uses standard threads so just about any head will go on it. I just removed the one from my 500DX and installed a nice ball head.
