Photo.net Newsletter: December 15, 2011

Hi %%First Name%%,

And here we are, the last Photo.net newsletter of the year. So I would like to take a minute and thank the sponsors who have consistently supported Photo.net through 2011. Without their help, we couldn’t do what we do.

More importantly, I’d like to thank every person who is a part of the Photo.net community (and a double thanks to our subscribers). Without the users, there would be no Photo.net at all. Believe me, I know this more than anyone. I’ve been registered on the site since 1998. I’ve done everything from asking where to go to college, to moderating, writing, editing, being an admin, and finally being the guy in charge. Photo.net is a great place and it’s because of all the people who take the time and energy to make it so.

Speaking of subscribing and supporting the site, I’d like to remind everyone that for a limited time, Photo.net is proud to be able to offer a one year subscription to Popular Photography magazine included with your paid Photo.net subscription or renewal. No tricks, no “cancel later”, and no hoops to jump through. Read all the info in this forum thread, and please post there if you have any questions.

As always, share your thoughts about editorial, community, photography, and anything in between on the Facebook Page, Photo.net Blog, and Twitter Feed.

Current Photo Of The Week

for the week of 12.12.11

This week’s Photo of the Week is by photo.net member Miguel Angel de Arriba Cuadrado.

Rather than saying anything here, I’m going to give Photo.net member Joseph Eiche the floor with an excerpt from his POTW post this week:

“For me, very much an amateur, this photo captures perfectly the conceptual wolf. Shy yet fierce, curious yet cautious, always wary in its contact with humanity. I can imagine Miguel approaching this animal, its head slouched, profile reduced, inspecting him as he approaches for signs of danger.” -Joseph Eiche

Have something to say about the Photo of the Week? Then you should post your thoughts on the Photo of the Week Forum.

Monthly Project: Holidays, Celebrations & Parties

December is a big month for holidays around the world. From Christmas to Hanukkah to Kwanzaa to Al Hijra to Bodhi Day to the Winter Solstice and more, there are many reasons to get together with friends and loved ones in December. For many photographers, photos of these celebrations are both their most treasured and some of their best examples of “people” photography. Why? Because our friends and loved ones are the most likely to be comfortable with our funny photographic obsession, they don’t shy away when we pull out the camera.

These are photos that really show the heart of these gatherings of loved ones. Be it midnight mass, solstice sunrise or stockings on Christmas morning, if you are there photographing those you care about, that care will show in your images.

See all of the Monthly Projects (and submission instructions) on the Monthly Project Index page. Here are a few images that have been submitted for this month’s project that caught my eye:
