Rome

I just returned from Rome. The city is beautiful after having been cleaned and restored for the Jubilee 2000 last year. If you can swing a visit, now is the time to go.

I enjoyed the summary and photos greatly. It brought back memories of my own trip to Rome. Too bad it was mainly for business. Next time, armed with this summary, I will spend far more time sightseeing. Don

The comments I read about this travel are in some part erroneous and in many ways superficial and trite. I hope you have the opportunity to visit Rome again with an "open mind" approach and a better knowledge about the story of this wonderful city and its inhabitants

Your entire work denote a severe lack of respect for my country, Italy. How tou can only think to put a monument into a hall of a mall, doesn't care how big? And sadness grow up when I read that your Italian friend compared the Anfiteatro Flavio [Colosseo] to a "bunch of holes", or when you translate Barcaccia into "useless old boat"... Italy is a wonderful place, full of history, and, in the past , was one of the cradles of the modern world, as it's now. So, if a new trip in in your plans, ask to Italians, where what and why.

Nevertheless your photographic point of view, technically speaking, is poor, very poor.

I visited Rome last summer and I absolutely loved it. During my trip to Europe, I also visited Paris and Nice, France, London, and other small towns in France. By far, my trip to Rome was the best. The people were incredibly friendly and the city was breath-taking. Although there were a lot of tourists there, it didn't bother me at all. I was too busy concentrating on the wonderful atmosphere of Rome, Italy.

Also don't forget to explore Rome's surroundings, like here the Villa Hadrian in Tivoli, or Ostia, especially if you are interested in Roman ruins. A nice part about Roman ruins in Italy is that they are included in beautiful mediteranean gardens. There are also nice audio guides available.

One can use bus lines to get to the Villa, and a sort of tram lines to get to Ostia Romana. Ostia used to be the port of Rome; today, to get to the sea one must travel further with the same line, to Lido. Yes, Rome lays near the sea. However, the Roman seaside was rather disappointing. I suppose the most beautiful parts of it are privately owned.

Roman Holidays

I have been in Rome last year, it offers some of the most beautiful views in the world. Rome is a big city, multi cultural and everybody looking for Rome accommodation can find the perfect solution according to its own needs.
Rome apartments would be the ultimate solution to enjoy the city just as Romans do, using the furnished kitchen to cook the home made pasta you just bought at the closest grocery store, sitting in the living-room to hear how true Italian sounds.

Rome is one of the most interesting cities in the world for photographers. All of the layers of history and culture just collide there. You can easily spend days just photographing the Forum. You could spend a lifetime photographing the rest of the city. Due to the fact the it was the center of both the Roman Empire and the Catholic church Rome has an overwhelming amount of stunning architecture and sights.
