Fuji Instant film... What Holder???

Dan Smith , Jun 29, 2003; 01:49 p.m.

Fuji has started making instant film like Polaroid. It comes in 4x5 sheet film size. Apparently it doesn't have a holder on the market. At least that is what the local dealers are saying. Anyone know what holder this film will work in??? Or are we waiting as it sits on the dealers shelves creeping slowly towards out of date status?

Well, the 3x4 pack film fits anything that takes Polaroid pack film, and I'd suspect the sheet film fits an ordinary Polaroid holder.

Where can I get some of this film? Calumet doesn't list it - they only show the pack film.

AFAIK Fuji makes pack film that fits the polaroid 405 holder. They make one emulsion only which is sthe same as one of the Polaroid pack emulsions....in fact fuji is the OEM manufacturer of that emulsion ... can't remember which one it is though.

If htey have gotten into the sheet film instant business as well I would be very curious to know if they are making the stuff or repackaging Polaroid materials. however, again, as far as I know, only the one pack emulsion.

100 colour in 4x5 (apparently much preferred to Polaroid by those who use it) and a 3200 iso B&W film in 4x5

...Ideally suited for a wide range of commercial applications, including product photography, CRT image recording, microphotography and identification and portrait photography, this new daylight film is optimized for use either under direct sunlight or electronic flash. The new FP line includes: the FP-100C, an ISO 100 color film available in 4x5 and 3.25x4.25; the FP-100B, an ISO 100 black and white film available in 3.25x4.25; the FP-3000B, an EI 3200 black and white film available in 3.25x4.25; and the FP-3000B45, an EI 3200 black-and-white film in 4x5 format... more at link above

I have diggen out some Fuji Instants I made ten years ago and the colors are just as crisp as in the first day! They were not exposed to light though.

This question has popped up alot and there is alot of Mis-Information.

The Fuji 4x5 film IS PACK FILM. It fits either the polaroid 550 back or the Fuji Instant Holder PA-45.

The other style is "medium format" 600 series film (Aka polaroid 679, 665, 690) and this fits the 405 holder or any other medium format polaroid back.

Fuji, is (apparently) not going with the sheet film instant format. This film is also not "new" they just were not able to sell it in the USA do to tradmark reasons with Polaroid. Since polaroid's "chapter 11 debacle" they were able to bring it in.

Calumet does indeed carry Fuji FP100C45, if it's not on their website, try giving a call. Keep your eyes open for a 550 Polaroid holder auction, they're going for pennies, as opposed to buying a new one for around 160.00 - mine, used, in like new condition was a whopping 17.50. Need I say more?

his film is also not "new" they just were not able to sell it in the USA do to tradmark reasons with Polaroid. Since polaroid's "chapter 11 debacle" they were able to bring it in.
actually Fuji Photo Film and Plaroid had a liscensing agreement which expired late last year or early this year. The Chapter 11 bankruptcy of Polaroid had nothing to do with this. And accordingto the marketing and p.r. departments at Fuji Photo Film USA the new instant films are indeed new and different from the FP-100C emulsions which were formulated under the Polaroid /Fuji license.
My source is the p.r. firm for Fuji Photo Films USA and various contacts at Polaroid over the years.

I read the post on this new Fuji film and went to the Fuji site, but I am still unclear as to what type of holder I should purchase to use on my 4X5 camera for this film. Is it the Polaroid 550 or 405 or what? Thanks!

james driscoll , Jun 30, 2003; 09:14 a.m.

Fuji makes two types of instant film:

4x5 pack film- for either the Polaroid 550 holder or the Fuji Instant Holder # PA 45 (this will be denoted by eg-FP100C45)

3x4 pack film- for either the 405 back, or medium format instant film backs. (This will be denoted by eg FP100C)

they are not making "sheet" film IE- for the 545i holder.

Fuji uses confusing terminology. A jpeg of the package of the ISO 3200 4X5 instant 'film'has the following written on the box:

Instant B&W Film, FP-3000B45, 10 Instant Black & White Prints.

It's that last word that dashed my hopes that this yielded a negative. You end up with a 4X5 PRINT. Great for recording ultrasound scans for expectant mothers, but NOT a high speed 4X5 FILM.

I shot some FP-100c and some 689 vivid 3 weeks ago. The Fuji film is like no other Polaroid film I have ever seen. Far, far better. The 689 looked pitiful next to it.
