Nature Photography Links

Commercial Sites

[These are sites with useful information, but their main purpose is commercial]

  • Mike Kirk All kinds of gizmos for nature photographers. Tripods, heads, brackets, plates and other hard to find things designed to make life easier for nature photographers.
  • Really Right Stuff (RRS) At last! RRS have joined the rest of us and got a web site. QR plates for Arca-Swiss type QR systems, plus flash brackets and other specialized brackets and plates. If they don't have a plate for your camera or lens, Bryan will probably make one for you!. Not too much info there as of 7/98, but at least you can send a request for their catalog. One day they may get email too...
  • Kinesis Photo Gear  Camera and lens bags. Modular belt system. Long lens bags. Basically a product advertisment, but some of their offerings might be of interest to nature photographers wanting to carry equipment in the field.
  • George Lepp's Pages are under construction as of 02/97. Might be some more good stuff here in time. As of 3/98 the pages are still under construction. Also, someone should tell whoever writes George's pages that yellow text on a white background is really hard to read! As of 7/98, still lots of promises about great things to come one of these days...the text is easier to read now though.
  • Arthur Morris has a web page listing his books, workshops and linking to examples of his bird photography.
  • Galen Rowell's Mountain Light - Images, products, and the latest "Outdoor Photographer" column on-line.
  • Photo Traveller - Brief on-line guides to several parks and other scenic areas, plus infomation on their tours, workshops and printed guides.
  • Moose Peterson has a web page. A classic example of a multicolored text, Java driven, Music playing, animated GIF site that sometimes crashes my browser and is so annoying and hard to read that you may give up before getting to the good stuff. This would be an error though, because there is good stuff here. You have been warned. Please don't emulate this page design! As of 03/98, it (or my browser) seems a bit more stable. I still hate the background music though! As of 8/98 it's still Java based and "plug-in" rich, plus the background music isn't any less annoying. Good content though if you dig for it.
  • NANPA - North American Nature Photographer's Association pages. Lots of useful information, and the only thing they will try to sell you is a membership!
  • Great Outdoor Recreation Pages - A good place to search for location information, lots of advertising - but it's easy to avoid if you don't want it.
  • AG-Editions - The on-line service of the people who bring you the Green Book, the Blue Book and the Guilfoyle Report. AG-Editions is a publisher of material which promotes contacts between image providers and photo buyers. Contact info for photographers (e.g. well know nature photographers such as Boyd Norton, Franz Lanting and Gary Braasch) can be found on the site.
  • Nature Photographer Magazine - Well, this isn't actually a link since they don't yet have a web site (09/99), but you can contact them at nature_photographer@yahoo.com. Snail mail is P.O. Box 690518, Quincy, MA 02269. Phone is  617/847-0091 and fax is 617/847-0952.
