roger michel , Jan 01, 2007; 04:58 p.m.

here is ara gechijian (and a customer) in his great shop, new england photo, which is located in arlington, massachusetts. NEP, an authorized leica dealer since the early 50s, is one of the last of the old time photo shops. he has dozens of rollies, SM leicas, M leicas, and leica cine!! he also has just about every MF nikon lens ever made with bodies of every type from F to F6. he even has a nice selction of graflex, pen F, and nikon RF.

ara's father ran the shop before ara took over.

i have picked up too many great items at NEP over the years to list here. got a great mint-in-box leicavit for my iiig last week.

definitely worth a visit if you are in the boston area.

now, do you hae a shot of your favorite camera store?

Roger,

I always have trouble finding a good store in Boston, thanks for posting this. It's good to know there are still people out there who appreciate us independent camera store owners : ) It's a tough business to be in right now.

Don't forget Newtonville Camera and W. B. Hunt. Harvard (town, not University) Camera appears to be on it's way out, unfortunately for me (out in the distant burbs versus the city).

Sadly, my favorite camera store only exists in my memories - La Grange Camera (IL).

These were the guys that didn't laugh at the kid on the bicycle with the Speed Graphic in his basket, instead taking the time to steer him the right way. This led to a short career as a PJ and a lasting enjoyable hobby.

Ara's a great guy. He loves to wheel and deal. He also has a nice collection of Ferraris. I guess the camera business is pretty good. Well, at least I hope it is for him. ;-)
