Hi,
A question for you tech-savvy guys. Will it be possible to mount Zeiss for Contax G lenses on the new Fuji X Pro 1, assuming someone makes the adapter, or is there a problem with that?
Thanks
Mike

They have stated that Leica lenses will eventually be supported, so it's probable that Zeiss glass would also be supported.

Zeiss M mount lenses yes, not the Contax G lenses.

In theory, since they are both electronic, a programmable logic chip could be in the adapter to convert one protocol to the other. But the problem is that neither vendor is likely to publish the "protocol" of their electronic interface, making this a project of "reverse engineering".
Physically, it's a matter of machine shop practice.

Thanks for your responses.

If Leica lenses can be mounted via adapter, then Contax G lenses that have been modified can be fit as well...
http://www.japanexposures.com/lens/
The above site lists a number of G lenses that have been modded for M use. Ken Rockwell has discussed using one of these as well. It is intriguing because of the excellent performance ascribed to most of the G lenses (I've heard iffy things about the 35/2, but keep in mind what it's being compared to...). With the conversion cost in mind, they are still quite a bit cheaper than their M brethren...
The site says to contact them to discuss cost to convert your own G lens to M mount.

Hi Andrew,
Yes, I had read about that, but I believe the mod. renders the lens unusable with the Contax G.
Happy to be corrected though!

In today's information age, is it really partical to think that a protocol will remain secret for very long?
My guess is that fuji has already published the protocol or has sent copies to other lens makers, since lenses are not a significant source of revenue for Fuji. (after all - they used Nikon with all of their DSLR's).

Hi Andrew,
I contacted japanexposures from your link above and they confirm that a modification would mean that the lenses would no longer work with the Contax G, so not an option for me sadly.
