I'll be fingering it in a few days at Katsumido Camera in Kobe. I'll see just how pro this camera is.

Have you seen the video with a couple of Aussies shooting the X-Pro 1 on a farm--posted three days ago? It is here:

No comment on the images, but look at the camera. Don't want throw cold water on your fire, but isn't the camera kind of bulky?

I had one in my hands at CES and no, it's not as small as an M6. But it's also not bulky in the hands, at least to me. And it made me pretty stoked to try one.

It appears it was designed to be just a hair bigger in all dimensions than the M9 for some marketing reason.

Gorgeous Camera. Nice looking early results. Marc Newsom (Pentax K-01) could take a few design lessons from these guys.
but isn't the camera kind of bulky?
Bulky? I just eyeballed the new M9T and 35mm ASPH a guy has for sale here in the classifieds for $29K(that's with the just one lens):

I'll take a couple of mm more camera any day for one that's more than 10x less expensive(with three lenses).

I think the bottom line may not be the weight and volume (the first less than the M9, the second more) but the image quality comparisons with the M9 and the NEX-7. A 1.5X crop factor is going to make it difficult to use very wide angle lenses, even their 18mm is no wider than a 27mm equivalent. If it will be possible to use the V-C superwides in M mount, that might be an advantage, particularly for those with a number of M lenses. It will have to do a lot better than a heavily discounted 1.33X crop factor M8 or M8.2 in terms of image quality to make it really competitive. The prices of the Fuji optics do look attractive, if their quality will be found to be among the highest that Fuji has produced to date.

I went down the used M8 route as it has a smaller crop factor and works well with my M series lenses. This is despite the filter issues and 6 bit coding I have to add to older or CV lenses. The lenses should be good - Fuji has made some great lenses, my Fuji GX680 MF cameras have very impressive optics and the GX680 180 F3.2 is perhaps the finest portrait lens I have got (or used). I bought my M8 (still boxed) from Ffordes in the UK (they do ship to North America) - it has around 1000 shots on it and is almost new. Since it was only $900 more than the Fuji it was the solution that worked for me. Others may find the IR issue of the M8 and the convenience of the Fuji may make it a better option. I think what you buy depends on the M mount lenses you own and how much you like the Leica feel. I love my Contax G series bodies but my Leica M6 feels better and has a better viewfinder - it does not take better shots!

Wow, only 3'550 USD for the outfit! That's only halfway to an M9 where I got all the lenses/flashes I need already! What an offer!
