Rollei P11 slide projector - advice and leads on finding slide magazines

Brian Prestemon , May 27, 2008; 04:28 p.m.

I just acquired a Rollei P11 slide projector (does both 6x6 and 35mm). I'm wondering if anybody has experience with these and can give me some pointers on how to use it and what to avoid doing. For instance, I've heard that these can jam easily.

Also, I'm on the look out for some medium format slide magazines for it since it didn't come with any.

I'd sure appreciate any advice/leads you can provide.

The current Rollei ones will work, but the numbers are backwards. How many magazines do you think you would need for a show?

It is a good projector and mine does not jam at all. The current rollei magazines are for the newer model, so if used on the P11 the number are backward, but no problem in any way apart the fact that are very expensive. You can buy some magazine and use the gepe transfer storage tray (wil be soon discontinued) to store the slides and transfer into the magazine when you need it. http://www.gepe.com/website/index.asp?pageID=256&showProdID=164 or you can find on ebay.it (Italy) some malinverno magazine, they are perfectly comatible and have a nice leatherette box that contain 3 magazines, they come out for sale from time to time.

Thanks for the responses.

Chauncey - For now I just want to find just a few, only one would be okay, I just want to try out this new toy but without a cartridge I don't think I can, right?

Diego - Thanks for the information. Are the Gepe transfer storage trays designed so you can just "dump" them into your Rollei magazine or do you have to still put them in one at a time?

I could probably spare you 2 or 3 of the proper ones in cases. Make me an offer. Do you have the manual? Does the projector cycle smoothly in forward and reverse? Sometimes the rubber friction gear gets hard with age and slips. You have to clean it off and rough it up a little. Which bulb do you have in it? Does your bulb show much use? (How much of a bulge does it have on the slide side?) I usually project with the top cover unfastened so that if it does jamb (not very often) I can get to the drive gear and cycle it manually. Which lens do you have?

It would be great to get two or three medium format magazines/cases. I'm not really sure what to offer though, what do you think? Where are you located? I'm in the Dallas, Texas area.

Yes, I have the manual and the projector does seem to cycle smoothly from what I can tell so far. The bulb doesn't appear to be bulging at all. How do I tell which bulb I have? If you project with the top cover unfastened, doesn't that preclude the auto cycling from working? My lens is the Heidosmat 1:2.8/150. Is that the best one for medium format slides?

Diego Buono , May 29, 2008; 04:11 a.m.

Brian, the GEPE transfer storage trays is designed so you can just "dump" them into your Rollei magazine, you do not have to put them in one at a time. The Heidosmat is a very good lens, is not the top of the line but will do serve you very well. I compared it with the Schenider AV Xenotar 150 f2.8 HFT I have in the Rolleivision 66, thiis better, over all in the corner but if you do not compare side by side you probably do not notice.

Is there an OnLine PDF manual for the P-11 projector? Who is the best repairman for the Rollei P-11 projector, now that Marflex of NJ has retired? Parts availability, are they available or is someone refurbishing the rubbers in the fklywheel gear of the P-11?

I have a P-11 with (2) projector lenses: 110mmF2.8 and the 150mmF2.8.

Thanks to everybody, particularly Chauncey, for your help and advice.

Yes, I did check out the photo.net classifieds ad and am buying those slide magazines as well.
