Konica Minolta Dimage Multi Pro Scanner Questions

Ken Wayne , Aug 18, 2008; 12:25 p.m.

I'm selling one that a friend sent me to sell and I've never used it.

Questions:

1. A potential buyer writes... "I have a 1 year old MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.4. Can you confirm that this unit/included software will run on my operating system?"

( We found an update for the software on the scanner and it had OS X 10.4, but not 10.5. )

2. Will the scanner accept 6X4,5 negs and will it handle negs from a Hasselblad Xpan camera (135 film Panorama)?

thanks in advance for any help.

Everything about that scanner on: http://www.scanhancer.com/

1. Yes, should be no problem w/OS X 10.5. Even if the old Minolta software didn't work, your buyer would probably be better off 3rd party software like Vuescan or Silverfast.

2. Definitely yes re: 645 negs/slides. For the Xpan negs/slides, it would depend on how wide they are; if they're no longer than a 6x9 120 neg/slide, they would fit in the glass holder (& there would obviously be a lot of empty space).

This link will take you to the latest drivers issued by Konica Minolta for the scanner.

Konica Minolta: Home > Support > Americas > DiMAGE Scanners > DiMAGE Scan Multi Pro : Software & Drivers

I will have to test to see if the software still runs on the latest version of 10.5 as I haven't used the scanner in a number of months.

The scanner is listed in the supported scanners for VueScan on the on http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#minolta.

I really like the Minolta software bundled with the scanner.

Yes, the latest Minolta driver runs with this scanner under OSX 10.5.4.

You can scan Xpan frames using the multi-format 35mm setting in the driver software. The driver will only scan a strip in the middle of the medium format glass holder then. It is wise to mask off the excess area with black paper to avoid stray light.

Make very sure that when you send this scanner out you lock the scanning head with the special locking screw. There is a certain combo of buttons to press in order to park the head in its transport position. If the head will not be locked properly the scanner will almost surely get focusing problems. These problems can be solved by following the repair manual on the Scanhancer website, but you better avoid the problem altogether. In de PDF manual on the CD that comes with the scanner the proper way to park the head is described.

There is a lot of collected wisdom about this scanner in the Yahoo Multi Pro user group:

The latest driver/software still works with OS 10.5.4.

As a tip, if you need to force quit the DiMAGE Scan Utility at any point, you will need to remove the "DiMAGE Scan" folder from your ~/Library/Preferences folder, otherwise the software won't launch again.
