Another Mamiya Universal Question

Benjamin Baker , Sep 20, 2008; 06:37 p.m.

I was about to sell my Universal that has not been used in 8 or so years and I started searching "Mamiya Universal" and realized like my SQ-A its time to get them serviced and back to work.

1. I am looking for a 6x9 or 6x7 film holder back but can not seem to find one. I have downloaded a manual looking for a model number. Where can I find one?

2. I found out Polaroid no longer makes 665 film, is there another positive/negative black and white film out there?

3. Is it worth getting it serviced ($125) if I can not find a film back?

Thanks for your help Ben

Are you looking for a roll-film back or a sheet-film back? The roll-film backs show up fairly often on eBay (sheet-film backs are not as common and require holders). I don't know that I would have it serviced if I wasn't going to use it but these are good, robust cameras and produce good results if you are looking for a quiet, fairly unobtrusive rangefinder camera in medium-format.

Roll film back, I saw two on ebay.ca yesterday for around $100, is that a good price?

It's a shame you're selling it. I sure like mine.

If the back is in good condition $100 is probably ok... chances are you may have to replace the seals but that is pretty easily done. There were several models, including one multi-format. I am not sure about any differences between the Universal and the Super Press but it seems as though there may have been adapters.
