This month's project is a global collaboration between photo.net
members. First mentioned by Tero Pylkkanen and then promoted by Pete
Millis, we are encouraging all photo.net members to try and take a
photo at the same time across the globe.
The time will be: April 5, 2008 at 15:00 UTC/GMT
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the same as Greenwich Mean Time
(GMT).
This time/date should be either a Saturday or a Sunday for
everyone. Looking at geographic landmasses this will put the Americas,
Africa, Europe, a bit of western Asia and some of the Middle East in
daylight. There is a sizable photo.net user group from Australia,
India and central/eastern Asia who will be in the dark. But we can't
have daylight across the globe, and the largest group of Photo.net
users is from N. America and Europe. Besides, night photos are just as
fascinating as day photos. This project isn't a stickler for shooting
at the same exact second, and long exposures are supported (and
encouraged). However, try to start your exposure as close to 15:00
UTC/GMT as possible. You can read the original
thread here if you would like to see the discussion that went into the
idea.
