D200 trigger difference between PC and hot shoe

I am wondering if there is a difference between the trigger voltage- PC and hotshoe. I would like to use a Metz 45CL-4. I know about web pages that give trigger voltage, but I was wondering if it matters if you use the PC socket vs the hotshoe. It seems that the PC would be a "safer" route.

The "trigger voltage" would be the same, since the voltage source is across the flash terminals, not the camera (i.e. the flash is the "hot" side of the circuit). What differs is the means used (switching) to close the open flash circuit and discharge the energy (voltage) across the flash tube.

If you are concerned about the Metz then the PC sync socket would be safest. The D200 should be safe to +250V on the hot shoes, as indicated by the typical Nikon CYA statement below:
