Ah good to know there is someone out there testing every single Nikkor for us :-)
The tree looks like a lot of detail was captured. I wonder what it looks like in a 100% crop. The bokeh looks very pleasing. I really do not need another macro lens - certainly not one in G edition but it looks like the bokeh may just be a good reason to have this lens. Of course we need to see more in different light. Once you have an occasion to shoot in harsh light post some examples.
Thanks for posting .

I'm going to pick up one of these for shooting food for the paper. I shoot at a lot of
food/wine/restaurant events in Monterey Bay, Pebble Beach, etc and I think this lens will be
the sole tool to do it with.
How does it handle compared to the old 60? I like how it's slightly longer and bulkier.

How much fatter does the lens look with the hood reversed on it for camera bag fitting?

I always liked the old 60mm 2.8D, is an awesome lens, but the AF speed SUKKS, on the other hand the AF speed on this new "G" is stunning, Bokeh also seems to be better and even if is as sharp as the 2.8D is worth the extra $$, I'd think that this G is even sharper :0
Don't know the deal with G and extension tubes, but since I don't use extension tubes in my case that's no an issue.

don't know if you are familiar with the lowepro lens cases, but this lens fit comfortably with the hood reversed on the lens case "1"

Does the new 60mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor make my old 60mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor look fat?
Vivek . , Mar 26, 2008; 04:58 p.m.
Lex, From the pics Juanjo posted, the old 60/2.8 AF-D would look like it has been on a diet next to the new one.
Juanjo, the tree shot shows that the lens is indeed very sharp and is not just high in contrast like the other micronikkors. The older ones would have made the fence prominent due to higher edge contrast and lower resolving power. The OOF rendition is nice as well. Colors appear well corrected too.
Nikon appear to have had a change of heart about the resolution/contrast characteristics with the design of the 85/2.8 PC Micro. Good trend.

How about use with bellows and focusing rail ?

I just took delivery of the 2.8D for $250 and it's great! I don't know if the faster focusing would be worth the extra cash (for me..) but I use this lens (2.8D) on my FE2, so the aperture ring is a must.
