D300 auto focus point won't move

Crissy Watkins , Nov 20, 2009; 03:48 p.m.

I was recently on vacation when all of a sudden I could not move the focus point on my camera. I've never had any problems with it or banged it around unnecessarily. I worked around it changing the auto focus mode to AF-ON only so I could focus on what I wanted anywhere in the frame and then just move to reframe the photo. But I'm afraid something is broken on my camera. I have gone over every menu trying to undo something I may have done but nothing I do fixes the problem.
Anyone else have a similar problem. I'm trying to avoid sending my camera in for maintenance. It is covered. I just don't want to be without it.
Thanks for the help.

Check the lock next to the Multi-Selection pad. Make sure that you didn't accidentally lock the pad.

Crissy, if your focus-point selection isn't locked as Shun suggests, see if this helps. I have been annoyed when in the busy moments of shooting suddenly I haven't been able to move the focus points on my D300. When this happens, it needs a tap on the shutter button and then I can move the focus points again.

As mentioned, you need to activate the meter to move the point (really annoying) or the pad is locked
