D300 Zoom Image Issue

Darrell Irwin , Mar 20, 2010; 11:49 p.m.

Has anyone else run into this issue with their D300. I was shooting an event this evening with my D300 and SB800 on a RRS flash bracket with Nikon TTL flash cord. Every once in a while after shooting a couple shots and then trying to zoom in to check them the + zoom button would not respond even after pressing several times and the image would not zoom. This only happened several times out of about a 6 hour period. When it did happen all I needed to do to get it to respond again was turn the LCD display off and then select the image view button again and then zooming in on the same image was no problem.
Doesn't seem like a big issue but is just a little disconcerning since the camera is relatively new with not a lot of clicks on it. If anyone has experienced the same issue I would love to hear from you and what your solution if any.
Thanks, Darrell.

Are you 100% certain the 'little green' light was out ? If the camera is writing a file to your CF card, you may not be able to zoom -n until the write-to-card is finished. Turning the camera off and then back on may be normal....

I've had exactly that scenario happen to me too. But I never identified what causes it either.

It's too late right now to try reproducing the scenario that Jerry suggests.

It has happened to me and it has happened to me more often in hot and humid weather rather than cool and dry. I suspect some software bug.

Any impression you have that it happens more often in hot and humid weather is because of one of the following factors:

  1. You shoot more in hot and humid weather
  2. You notice it more in hot and humid weather.

If hot and humid weather were a factor, it wouldn't be a software bug.

P.S. Zooming on the preview works fine while a D300 is writing to the card.
