I am trying to fit this combo together on my legacy D2Xs. Does anyone have a detailed picture and/or more importantly explanation of how these component fit? Apparently there is a newer bell shaped piece with the DK-19, but cannot get the compression ring to fit. Stupid Monday issue, please pardon my question as it is seems it should be more intuitive!!!

I used this combo for awhile on a D2x. Since the cup sits away from the viewfinder, the ring can easily come off. The cup came off mine on the first outing. I did find it, but the ring was never seen again. I think if I were to attempt that setup again I'd put some drops of super glue around the ring and make it permanent.
Eric, thanks for the reply, but there is a new solution to the ring issue other than super glue. Apparently, Nikon has finally addressed and resolved this.
I just got it working fine with the new barrel cap that comes with the DK-19!
I just didn't know how to orientate it. There is a new cap that sits on top of the setup in the pic above that locks in all into place. I figured it out and confirmed it with a in-depth review.

Nice to see that they found a solution to this. Maybe I'll add a DK-19 on my next order of stuff from B&H to get that ring.
The piece comes with the DK-17m, not the eyecup. You can, however, call Nikon up and they will ship you the piece if you need it (possibly free of charge).
