I apologize in advance if this question has already been answered. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.
Here is my issue...
Shooting D200 in manual mode, matrix metering on.
Menu settings for Metering/Exposure
ISO Auto - OFF
ISO Step value - 1/2
EV Step - 1/3
Exp Comp/Fine Tune - 1/3
Exposure comp. ON
Center-Weighted 8
Here is my issue:
I can be in the same place, same lighting scenario, shooting the same subject. Same focal exact focal point too! What happens is that after my shot, the meter will jump and I have to readjust my settings. For example:
1) Shot 1 - 1/30th at f5
2) Shot 2 - meter jumps to 1/20th at f4 - change settings to get accurate exposure to 1/40 th at 4
3) Shot 3 - meter jumps to 1/30th at3.5 - change settings to get accurate exposure to 1/60th at 3.5
4) Shot 4 - meter jumps to 1/30th at 2.8
As you can imagine, it's very annoying, especially in a situation where I want to shoot on continuous mode (bride walking down the aisle at her wedding!)
Any suggestions? It's driving me nuts! :(

Is your bracketing feature on?

That's what it feels like but I'm not pressing the Bracket button.

You confused me. I do not follow.
What settings do you readjust in 2) and 3) ?
What does accurate exposure mean? By what criteria?
You are shooting in what mode?
Must be P since aperture priority would keep aperture constant and shutter priority would keep exposure time constant?
Or are you saying you set everything manual but the camera changes settings from shot to shot?

I believe if you turned bracketing on, it stays on. Check to be sure it is off.

Hi Walter,
I adjust the settings to get an accurate meter reading. I'm shooting in manual.
Elliot, do you know where in the menu I should check to see if it's on or not? I checked under Bracketing/Flash but there's no really On or Off.

Thanks for all your help. I ended up resetting everything and all is working perfectly now. Bracketing must've been turned on but I'm not sure how. Thanks again!

E5 through E8 are your bracketing settings, I believe.

Matrix metering on ... Center-Weighted 8 ... does not compute. Either one is OK but if you have your D200 in Matrix metering, that is it. Exposure compensation is best left unused, as the D200's Matrix meter does not know what area in the entire scene you want more or less light adjusted using + or - compensation.
