Hi
I have a D300, lenses and an SB-700. Im looking for a Nikon compact for general travel photos that can also take my SB-700.
Any ideas what I should go for:
- P6000 (I like the form factor)
- P7000 (does it still have AF problems?)
- a used P5100?
Of course I am also concerned about:
- Manual controls
- IQ
- VR
- ability to shoot clean images over ISO 400
- response time between shots
- portability (which is why I'm not considering a bridge-cam)
thanks for your help
O

I also have a D300 and an SB 900 flash. Sometimes I just don't want to lug it around, so I purchased a P7100. Ergonomically it felt better in my hands than the P7000 and I'm satisfied with the autofocus. Although I have not tried it, the owners guide says that the SB 400, 600, 700, 800,900 and 910 will work on the camera. I really do like the P7100 for what it is......a nice substitute for times I don't or can't use the D300.
Hope this helps. I see that BUYDIG.COM has the P7100 advertised for 409.00. I've purchased from them before and found them to very reputable and trustworthy

Hi Todd
Thanks for that; I didn't know about the P7100. Similar price point to the P7000 and G12 - and all are cheaper than the P6000!

You're welcome Orly. By the way, if it matters to you, the P700 and the P7100 both shoot in RAW as well. I don't believe any of Nikon's other PS cameras are capable of that.
At the Time I bought mine, it was about 50.00 more than the P700. I felt it was worth it because the P7100 had a redesigned hand grip, a control wheel on the front of the camera which the P700 did not have and it also has a movable screen too.
For a point and shoot, I'm very happy with it. By the way, it does have VR and the ability to operate manually

I will take a look at the P7100 this weekend. Anything that works with Nikon Capture and D-Lighting is a bonus!
I currently carry a small, entry-level canon A800 in my bag for snapshots and its IQ is not good, esp. images at and over ISO 400 - a noise-fest when compared to my D300. Also, it has no manual control except for Exp. Comp.

I bought a P7100 - always with me (the D300 not ;-).
The hotshoe was an important aspect and it works well with my SB800. I think the internal flash has no commander mode btw.
I'm happy with the P7100 as an point&shoot, but DSRL is just a different experience. So the P7100 is with me always, but I carry my D300 whenever possible still (I expected to more often leave the DRSL at home).
P7100 shoots RAW, but its not the same file format like the DRSL.
