hiren's boot cd for pc users

Walter Degroot , Jul 29, 2010; 12:21 p.m.

I mentioned this quite a while ago. this is all FREE
but some may have missed the chance to download or use this valuable tool
http://www.hirensbootcd.net/download.html?ver=8.0
I have it set on version 8.0 as I wanted an older version
the current version is 10.6 go here
http://www.hirensbootcd.net/
on the left go to downloads
scroll to the bottom and the 10.6 ver will be selected
ABOVE click on HTTP line
and the download will start
you may have to hit on CONTINUE
if you want an older version do NOT hit copntimue
just scroll to the older versio
and then the pale line above it
this provides MANY tools
the anti-virus is old but will clear out old viruses that still cause problems
since you are booting from a cd, your present OS is not involved.
Apparently hitting keys while starting the cd can cause it to hang
there are tools to move HD contents to a new drive.
caution: with w2000 andf XP a ghost-ed image will not boot your pc.
just leave the drive connected and use disk management to make the drive ACTIVE
tyhen it will boot. this is quite different than fdisk ( make drive active)
in dod win 98.
if you take a quick look at a ghosted image, you may think it is a mess.
but you must REBOOT before it looks normal
with GHOST there may be some tricky issues copying a PARTITION to a drive or a partition to a partition.

WITH the newer ( v 10 and newer) there is a program burncc that makes it VERY simple to make a cd-r from a ISO image.
