Pentax K-7 and Pentax p3n

April Wright , Sep 05, 2010; 11:03 p.m.

I just picked up a Pentax p3n camera with a Tokina SZ-X 80-200mm 1:4.5-5.6 lens I own a Pentax K-7 I have tried to fit the lens from the p3n to the K-7 but it will not fit. What do I need to know as all the cameras I have are k mount. Is this p3n a different mount and is there an adapter I will need. When I looked up info it says the p3n is a KA mount and the K-7 is the K shouldn't they fit?

The lens mount is exactly the same (except the camera does not follow the aperture tab of the lens, unless the lens has an 'A' aperture position), and the lens should just mount. I use all my K-mount MF lenses on my by-now-ancient K100D and even the DA lens on my film bodies (with limitations, of course).

http://pentaxdigital.tdn9.be/ I found this and my lens does have the pin and flange do I really have to grind it down and sand off the pin before it will work?

Number 2. my lens has printed on it p/k-a r-p/k

I got it to work now I feel bad that I wasted asking the question. But at least the info is here for anyone else.

I have two P3n(s). They have Automatic exposure, Automatic shutter speed selection if you select an aperture, Automatic aperture selection if you select a shutter speed, and it has complete manual control that is also linked to the meter. The meter is very good, I shoot transparencies with it and only get fooled with back lighting. The only thing I don't like about it is there is no independent ISO selection, only DX (so for B&W I scratch and tape). I have had one for 24-25 years (whenever it was new). I never changed the batteries until last year and that was because I was going on a trip and I was nervous about dead batteries. I will go to Europe this Fall and I am taking both P3n(s); one with B&W and the other with slides. I will be able to switch lens without carrying loose lenses.

Here is an online manual for the P3n: http://www.cameramanuals.org/pentax_pdf/pentax_p3n-1.pdf

Glad you got it to work, April. Be careful if you do encounter K-mount lenses designed for Ricoh--harmless on the P3n but some can actually get stuck on your Pentax digital SLR camera and be difficult to remove.
