POW 1/15/2012

Michael Elenko , Jan 15, 2012; 05:37 p.m.

Maybe everyone is snowed in like I am today? To pick up the gauntlet that Markus laid down in his food thread, here are two shots from this morning of birds. Our first tangible snow of the year, maybe an inch or so, but enough to wreck mass panic among the populations of songbirds and Puget Sound drivers.

Both of these shots processed in the new Lightroom 4 beta which totally rocks (except for slowness which I assume is more beta-related than anything). Outstanding clarity, sharpening, and noise reduction.

Townsend's Warbler in Snow
We have a pair in our yard that I hadn't seen in months until very recently (during the yearly Audubon Christmas count fittingly). Very cheery to see during a grey winter.

after so much luxury, some auto fill flash with the Pentax AF280T, still a very trusty tool for me.
You have seen old golden retriever "Nico" before.

I took advantage of some sale prices and did one run of heli skiing on Friday. The ride was fun but the snow was terrible so the ski part was very challenging. Still a fun adventure! Hopefully some of that PNW snow will come this way!

The ski was really tough and I concentrated on survival instead of photos on the way down.
I took this on a walk with my son yesterday. This would be an XC ski trail on a normal year.

Sticking with the bird theme that Michael established, here's a pair of doves huddled together outside my window on a cold West Virginia morning.
