About the Pentax K-01 mirror-less rumor

Here's the entire article, translated from the Japanese via Google Translate:

Mirror-less machine adopts the name Pentax APS-C sensor K-01?

From readers, courtesy of a mirror-less detailed information about new Pentax equipment.

  • Pentax new aircraft will be announced by CP +.
  • The name is K-01
  • The design of the hands of designers talby au. Rather than the K series, the Optio atmosphere rather reminiscent, like the heavy duty no Ricoh GXR.
  • K-mount mount. Other DA 40mm F2.8XS, there will be three lens kit with the existing lens.
  • Black & white body color (black keynote), white and black (white tone), black and yellow (based on black and white, yellow leather) three different colors.
  • In optical viewfinder, but the presence of EVF, is not clear about internal or external.
  • The sensor is the same spec K-5. Well as K-5 and the rear LCD.
  • Full HD video
  • Second shutter speed to 1 / 4000 of 30 seconds
  • Contrast AF, AF 81 Split
  • Built-in pop-up flash
  • 121mm width, 79mm height, 59mm depth
  • 560g in weight with battery

Since reliable information from people, I highly credible. The new machine is so that no optical viewfinder, the mirror-less machine no doubt, the adoption of the mirror-less K mount is amazing value.
59mm depth is certainly partly as a unit of the short flange back mirror-less body is too thick, it may be intact, including the K-mount flange back.
But still wide compared to the Kr-4mm, the height-18mm, so that in-depth and 9mm, I have been a small one around. Seems slightly lighter weight.
Then, I just care whether or not that can be achieved fast contrast AF DA · FA group of current SLR lenses.

What do you all think? I am excited. But unlike our previous discussions and the common consensus in our discussions, many of you like to see a different mount than a K-mount. I just wish there is no need for green button and I will welcome the new camera that is lighter and smaller.

Will it HAVE to come with a lens? I wonder how easy it will be to manually focus the lens.
And why the odd colors? I like the concept as a backup camera, but I ain't gonna be the first penguin in the water to get it.

That translation is hilarious. I'll wait for the official announcement. It seems pretty clear that they will introduce a MILC this year, but the details are important - what lenses, what mount, what future plans, etc. A 40/2.8 lens is not very inspiring.

I wonder how easy it will be to manually focus the lens.

Should be pretty easy, easier than on a DSLR if they do it right.

That translation is hilarious.

I tried to read it before coffee (big mistake ;~) As I understand it, it's not something that has any appeal for me.

"Pentax new aircraft will be announced by CP +."

When will it fly?

I'm pretty interested. A small K mount APS-C camera is exactly what I've been hoping for (as many of you know). For a light hiker/travel camera for the photographer with a collection of K mount glass it could be just the thing.
But I'll try not to get my hopes too high before it materializes...

I recently bought a Sony NEX 5N as a compact and traveling camera and it serves as an equal companion to a dSLR. There are scenarios that a compact camera is preferred over a dSLR for me especially when traveling with kids. But contrary is true with other moments as in photographing birds and sports that dSLR will win hands down.

It is very refreshing to see what Sony, Fuji and others have done. Camera design comes as compromise and there is NO perfect camera even with the best EVF and best LCD. And I like to focus on the positives and admire at the convenience that each new endeavor in the camera industry has lured us with innovations and bold move.

The NEX has a 18mm flange distance from sensor. The nex body is very thin but OSS, SR equivalent in Pentax, stays in the lens and hence the more bulk in native E mount lenses. Compromise again but I like the drastic weight reduction factor and the cut in form factor! Instead of the native E mount lens, I sought after pancake in other mounts and I found this russian beauty with Industar-69 28mm f/2.8 in M39/L39 mount and the adapter is very thin and the combination yields a very pocketable combo

Sony NEX 5N with a Industar-69 28mm f/2.8 pancake

And nex with great manual focus feature on peeking focus and manual focus assist with close to 10x magnification, I manual focus without its EVF and I have its flash mounted instead

Flash is mounted and I use the LCD to focus

And I am excited to see new development from Pentax. I look forward to the new camera. Small size comes with a price in ergonomics. And I sure hope Pentax takes a good compromise approach to keep K-mount and its good ergonomics. I sure hope that the weight is not accurately stated in the leaked rumor.

Is this how a small camera with a K-Mount lens handles?

If you're 18 month old, yes! ;) A larger camera wouldn't help either in that case.

I suspect this new aircraft camera will simply be a K-r without a mirror and pentamirror assembly and an EVF taking its place. It'll be a bit lighter, but I don't see it being much smaller. Think of the Sony A55 SLT but without the semitransparent mirror. To me, this is not the point of a MILC camera.

I've been saying for a couple of years that Pentax is uniquely qualified to produce a fantastic MILC with a line of compact primes, but they didn't jump into it back when they should (the market is crowding more each day), and now they're introducing an uninspiring camera after releasing a unique, yet irrelevant in the long run, camera that was the Pentax Q.

Maybe the Ricoh GXR will have to be Pentax's MILC and we'll have to make do with it. And when I say "we", I mean "others", because I'm not buying into Ricoh-Pentax MILCness.
