Way behind Canon and Nikon, but 3rd nevertheless.

From BCN Rankings.

So Pentax sold a half percent more than Oly and Sony combined. We're gaining ground! (Did I miss any other mfr's?)

Good for pentax but are m4/3rds and SLTs really considered DSLRs?

Good point.

No surprise, Sony, Oly, and Pany are into mirror less, not DSLR anymore

Didn't Sony still have some digital single lens reflex still on the market in 2011?

Now I understand why Pentax is sticking with SLRs - so they can say they are number 3! LOL.

For cameras with integrated lenses (compacts mostly, I suppose): Canon, Sony, and Casio are top three, quite tight together.
For mirrorless: Olympus (36.6) leads Panasonic (29.3) and Sony (27.3)
Very interesting: for lenses, Tamron is #2 (20.3), in front of Nikon (19.7) and just behind Canon (21.7)

Steve: Yes, Sony still sells SLRs (three models) but they're all older models, mostly due (if not overdue) for replacement. They haven't introduced a new SLR for quite a while now. They've all but outright stated that they won't introduce any more APS-C SLRs. They've implied that a new full-frame SLR might be a possibility, but I can't imagine full-frame cameras having much impact on overall sales figures.

I'm sure Sony will continue to make APS-C sized sensors for themselves and other OEMs, but they're outright sales of SLRs hasn't been fantastic. I'm sure most of their industry-specific profit has been from sensor sales to Nikon, Pentax, and the like. They're a big electronics company and I'm sure that SLR sales aren't the highest priority that they have. It's possible that their SLR sales are actually a loss-leader.

In any case, I'm excited for Pentax. I hope to see them make a significant, positive impact on the camera market, but I sincerely hope that their SLRs aren't axed in favor of a MILC, regardless of sensor size. They can make the Entry Level camera (Kx, Kr, etc) a MILC, but they had better keep their Pro Level models an SLR or I'll be saving for a 645D well before I'm ready to make the jump.
