Angry cat in backyard, partly B&W by Ewoud Schuring | 2017-01-17
Pets

I shot this photo of this cat who is visiting my backyard frequently. He was focused on another cat at the end of the garden. Suddenly he heard my camera click and turned around looking like this at me. What I like is the focus of the cat, but also a bit of movement of the tail. Also the eyes are very intriguing to me. My first thought was to make it partly B&W except for the cat. And I've strengthened the eyes by making them come out a bit more (and sharpen more). Also maintained the colour of the cat in the reflection. All done in Capture NX2.

Rural pond nearby the country estate of F. I. Tyutchev in Ovstug (Bryansk Oblast) by Evgeny Brook | 2017-01-17
Travel

Ovstug Village is a birthplace of the famous Russian poet Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev (1803?1873).
Ovstug is located in the vast expanses of Bryansk Oblast (in Zhúkovsky District), among birch groves, 35 km northwest of Bryansk City, not far from Orel ? Bryansk ? Roslavl ? Smolensk motor road.
The first mentions about Ovstug in letters of grant are dated from the XV century.

Nikolay Andreyevich Tyutchev (1720?1797), the poet's grandfather, built a first stone house in Ovstug, laid out the regular park and raised the stone Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos (in 1776), that he richly endowed afterwards. (The church was ruined by Germans in World War II and was reconstructed in 2003.)

The family of N. A. Tyutchev's son, Ivan Nikolayevich Tyutchev (1768? 1846), and his wife, Ekaterina L'vovna Tolstaya (1776?1866), was a typical then nobiliary family, in which then fashionable French got on with strict adherence of domestic (Russian) traditions.

Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev, their second son, was born on November 23 (December 5), 1803. His childhood, boyhood and the first years of youth elapsed here, in Ovstug.

At a mature age, in one letter from St. Petersburg to his second wife Ernestina, F. I. Tyutchev called Ovstug by a paradise... a lovely, perfumed, flourishing, serene, radiant place...
