Once In a Blue Moon by Craig Allen | 2014-09-17
Landscape

How often does this scene present itself? Once in a blue moon (or less in the Northwest giving our seemingly endless cloud cover). I drove up to the Mt Hood area to capture a shot of the blue moonrise and as I was driving up and over Lolo Pass I could see the light from behind Mt Hood. I set up in the middle of Lolo Pass Road and composed this shot. At about 3 minutes in to the exposure I manually closed the shutter as the moon was just peaking above the mountain. Seeing the shadow of the mountain cast upward and just a hint of the moon itself makes this a particularly special image in my mind (and a great memory). I highly value any and all feedback on this image and I thank you for your time to view and comment.

Laittyra Falls by subhadip choudhury | 2014-09-17
Landscape

There's an abundance of waterfalls in the state of Meghalaya, India during the rainy season. Cataracts form here and there on the hills, cascading to lower grounds. Some are small and picturesque, while some are gigantic and overpowering. This is small (and I presume seasonal) waterfalls near the village of Laittyra, on the road from Cherrapunjee to Shella. Small, two-tiered and to my eyes looked immensely pretty.

"Wild forest". Supreme obstacle by Evgeny Brook | 2014-09-16
Abstract

It is almost a certainty that each of us sometimes gets into a "wild forest" in his own life. It depends only on ourselves, how often we will come there and whether we will each time find a desire and strength to leave this "wild forest" ? for the time being (until the time when we will come there again) or already forever (so we will never return there again).

impatient cook or lazy gardener? by Didier Lamy | 2014-09-17
Humor

I had my camera set on a tripod and aimed at a riverfront in Strasbourg when I heard a splash. I looked in the direction of the noise, but saw nothing but another building with a window open at the second floor. Suddently this guy appeared at the window with a pan full of water which he threw away, and immediately went back inside . I quickly thought: (1) how bizarre, (2) too bad I missed that, it coud have been a "decisive moment" photo, (3) already two times, he will not do it again. But about one minute later he did it for the third time. Three times, why not four? So I reoriented my camera, waited for about one minute, and -bingo- he came again, and I made a first picture. Then he came back two more times, this photo being my third one, after I had learned exactly when to shoot. Now what was he doing? I could not see the basement of his building, but in this neighbourhood flowerbeds close to the walls are common. So maybe he was watering them. To this day I still dont know this story behind the photo, he was either a clumsy and impatient cook, or a lazy gardener.

Changing Seasons by Craig Allen | 2014-09-17
Landscape

On a trip to photograph Mt Hood reflecting in Trillium Lake at sunrise I was greeted to a sunrise so bland I never snapped a shot of the mountain. Instead I started looking around for a composition that could "save the day". I spotted this scene and knew there was something good here. The snow in the trees was the first of the season and with fall colors remaining in just one tree I thought this scene told a story. Please, please let me know what you like or do not like about it as I highly value all feedback. Thank you for taking the time to view and comment.

Train Derailment by Steven King | 2014-09-16
News/Journalism

Crews work to remove derailed railroad cars from the Union Pacific tracks approximately four miles south of Picacho, Ariz on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014. According to Zoe Gisela Richmond, director of public affairs for Union Pacific, a sudden thunder- and windstorm blew 39 cars of the 179-car train off their tracks about 10:30 p.m. Monday as the train's engineer began decelerating the train.

Water Beam by Craig Allen | 2014-09-17

While in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge photographing some of the waterfalls I made my way down to the base of Latural Falls. Looking for something a little different I came up with the idea of capturing the falls as a beam of light. I took several different shots from different angles and this one turned out to be my favorite. I look forward to hearing what you think about it, good or bad. Thanks for taking the time to view and comment.
